What to Eat Before and After Plastic Surgery Lone Tree, CO

September 16, 2021 by Atagi Plastic Surgery & Skin Aesthetics

At Atagi Plastic Surgery & Atagi Skin Aesthetics, it is our goal to help you enjoy the best possible results from every treatment and procedure we provide. This is why we often recommend specific treatment combinations and regimens for your specific goals. We also want you to know that there are things you can do on your own to ensure you have the best possible experience and results from plastic surgery and other aesthetic treatments. Yes, we’re talking about making thoughtful, informed food and beverage choices both before AND after your procedure!

We’re sure you already know that good nutrition can improve your body’s ability to heal and function optimally. It’s that very logic that leads us to sharing these recommendations with you for the kinds of foods that are helpful — and those that are harmful — to eat before and after any cosmetic procedure.

Keeping in mind your own dietary needs or restrictions, here are our recommendations:

Foods to eat

  • Lean proteins such as chicken, tofu and white fish: Protein is the building block of tissue, so getting enough healthy protein before and after a procedure can help your body heal and repair.
  • Plant-based fats such as avocados, flaxseeds and peanuts: Fats are an efficient source of energy, which is extra important pre- and post-surgery. Plant-based fats often come with plenty of healthy fiber, protein and antioxidants, making them the ideal fat source to support healing and recovery.
  • Unprocessed carbohydrates such as brown rice, whole grains, quinoa and legumes: These carbs are known for being high in fiber, vitamins and minerals, helping you regain a healthy metabolism (which can be slowed by anesthesia) and promoting overall healing.
  • Antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables such as oranges, mangoes, bell peppers and spinach: These kinds of foods are high in vitamins A, C and E, all of which are important for maintaining a strong immune system and supporting tissue healing.

Items to avoid two weeks before and two weeks following surgery:

  • Omega-3 fatty acids such as olive oil and salmon: Omega-3 is a known blood-thinner, which is important to avoid pre- and post-surgery to decrease the risk of bleeding or bruising.
  • High-sodium foods such as most frozen meals and processed foods: Too much sodium can contribute to bloating, which is not recommended while the body is healing.
  • Alcohol: Like Omega-3 fatty acids, alcohol is also known to thin the blood, putting you at an increased risk for bleeding and bruising.
  • Smoking and vaping: These are both damaging to your lungs, which can lead to a variety of health concerns, including impairing your body’s ability to heal well and efficiently after a procedure.

Making healthy, mindful choices based on these recommendations, as best as you’re able, before and after your next cosmetic procedures can help you truly get the most out of your results! After all, you deserve the very best. Our highly trained team is ready to help you discover your ideal self, so give us a call at 303.327.7300 today or request a consultation online!
